How to set up and use the Active-GovReports integration

To assist admin users in how to set up the GovReports integration with Active Platform for streamlined tax lodgements.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview: Our integration with GovReports allows GovReports to pull or read tax data from Active Workpapers to eliminate manual data entry into GovReports.

Currently, GovReports can pull data from the following workpapers in Active:

  • Company Tax Return

  • Partnership Tax Return

  • Trust Tax Return

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to both Active Platform and GovReports

  • Service account role assignment in Active Platform.

    • The service account acts as a super user for third-party connections, providing firm-level permissions and access to all client files and workpapers across offices. No additional licenses or office assignments are needed for a service account user.

  • Only users with the Owner role can set the service account role. An owner user can allocate a service account role to any admin or owner users.

  • The user authenticating in GovReports must be the same user assigned to the service account role in Active Platform – this is typically the administrator of both systems.

  • Clients in Active Platform and GovReports must have an ABN or a TFN supplied

    • To ensure successful integration, verify that the ABN or TFN supplied for a client match exactly in both systems.

Setup Service Account User in Active Platform

To start setting up a service account user, administrators must do this from the Users page, which you can access from the Admin Centre.

  1. In the User List page, click the ‘New Users’ button to create a new user or search for an existing user in the Users page to assign the service account role.

  2. On the User Details page, in the ‘Security Role’ field, select ‘Admin’ or ‘Owner’ as the user’s role.

Notice that the ‘Service Account Role’ field will appear. This is where you can assign the type of service account role to assign to the user.

  3. In the Service Account role field, you can select which type of access to give the user. For this integration, select ‘Read Access’ as this is required.

  4. To confirm the user creation, save these changes.

Setup in GovReports

  1. Login to GovReports as an administrator

  2. Click the ‘Settings’ button on the top-right corner of the page

  3. Settings, select ‘Lodgement Settings’

  4. In the Lodgement Settings page, click the ‘Enable’ button for Active Workpapers to enable the integration in GovReports.

  5. You will get redirected to Active Platform’s authentication page to confirm the permissions for the GovReports integration.

Click ‘Yes, Allow’ to give GovReports permission to access Active Platform.

Note: Ensure that Offline Access is ticked, as this is also required for the integration to work.

  6. Upon successful connection, you will see a green ‘Connected’ status for Active Workpapers on GovReport’s integrations page.

To confirm that the integration is connected successfully in Active Platform, navigate to the following link: Manage Connected Apps (https://identity.businessfitness.com.au/Manage/ConnectedApps).

  7. On this page, you should see GovReports in the list as a connected app:
