Overview: Clients may occasionally encounter the following errors when opening a binder:
"Invalid file."
"Unable to Find Binder"
Cause
The add-in is unable to locate the correct binder UI for the binder/excel workbook opened in Excel.
Resolution
This issue can occur for several reasons.
Please ensure that you are logged into the correct firm and that you opened this binder from the Active Workpapers platform.
If the issue appeared after recently inserting a custom worksheet, try removing that custom worksheet from the excel workbook, then right-click in the side pane and select Refresh. If this resolves the issue you can reinsert the worksheet back into the excel workbook.
Ensure you have not checked in an Excel workbook from another binder, as this can cause similar issues. Please check out and check in the correct Excel workbook.
If the above solutions don't work, You can also restore the binder to a previous SharePoint version as a workaround (you may lose some recently entered data). For guidance, please see the help article below:
How to restore to a previous SharePoint version of a binder
If you wish for us to fix your current binder, please reach out to our Support Team by clicking the help button at the top right and asking for a person.
Our Support team will follow this checklist to troubleshoot and resolve the error: *Notes for the Internal Support team*
Open the binder in Excel, Enable Developer Ribbon from File > Options > Customise Ribbon > Enable Developer ribbon.
Then Under Developer ribbon > view code > unhide the 'Binder_Properties' sheet, and ensure that the Binder ID in the Binder_Properties sheet matches the Binder ID visible in the URL of the binder in the website UI.When the Active Workpapers add-in is initializing, ensure that the user is logged into the correct firm, when prompted by the authentication popup.
Verify that the user has access to all offices associated with the binder and its client/client groups.
Confirm that the user is appropriately licensed in Central and that the subscription module for Active Workpapers (AWP) is active, with no user sync errors.
Ensure the named ranges show the correct value and correspond with the data in the Binder_Properties sheet
Here we can see the value of Binder id and Binder version named ranges are incorrect/blank
Once these named ranges are edited/corrected. Refresh the add-in and it should work.
