Overview: This article explains how to group and ungroup accounts under a custom header account.
Grouping Accounts in Active Workpapers
Grouping Accounts
To group accounts in Active Workpapers, follow these steps:
Open the Accounts screen.
Select the accounts you want to group. Hold Ctrl or Shift to select multiple accounts.
Right-click one of the selected accounts to open the context menu.
Choose Quick Group.
βFollow the onscreen prompts to create your Group/header account. A new header account will be created.
The account name, classification, and account type will prefill automatically, but you can override them if needed.
IMPORTANT: The Grouping Accounts feature is available in the web version only. It is not available in the Excel Add-In.
Ungrouping Accounts
To unlink an account from a group in Active Workpapers:
Click into the account you wish to unlink from the group.
Select an area outside the current group.
Move the account out by right clicking and selecting Insert Selection before/after. This will move the account out of the Group.
Active Ledger in Active Ledger & Reporting
Grouping Accounts
You can group accounts in Active Ledger from the Accounts screen. The process is similar to Active Workpapers above; Open the Accounts screen.
Open the Accounts screen.
Select the accounts you want to group. Hold Ctrl or Shift to select multiple accounts.
Right-click one of the selected accounts to open the context menu.
Choose Quick Group. Follow the onscreen prompts to create your Group/Header account.

Ungrouping Accounts
To unlink an account from a group in Active Ledger the process is similar to Active Workpapers above.
Click into the account you wish to unlink from the group.
Select an area outside the current group.
