How to resolve the 'Document title not found' error when opening a HowNow document in Active Workpapers

To assist users in resolving issues when accessing HowNow documents through the external hyperlink function.

Overview: When using the HowNow integration in Active Workpapers, users may encounter access errors when attempting to open inserted documents.

Issue

After adding a supporting document in an Active Workpapers binder using the HowNow integration,

Users may encounter the error: 'Document title ' ' not found'.

When attempting to open an inserted HowNow document via the 'Open External Hyperlink' function.


​Cause

This error typically arises due to one of the following reasons:

1. Outdated version of HowNow.

2. Insufficient access to the specific resource in HowNow.


​Resolution

Step 1: Verify access to the document in HowNow

  1. Open the HowNow application.

  2. Log in using your credentials (ensure your login email for HowNow is the same as your Active email).

  3. Navigate to the relevant client and confirm you can view the record manually in HowNow.

Step 2: Update HowNow to the latest version

If the issue persists after confirming access, the most common cause is an outdated version of HowNow.

  1. Open HowNow and go to File > System tools > Software Updates.

  2. Check for available updates.

  3. Install the latest version and ensure it is pinned to your taskbar (if issues persists, please ask your Active platform admin to visit the Admin Centre > Integrations page to ensure the HowNow Integration is correctly set up).
