How to troubleshoot 'Account Name Must Not Be Empty' error when importing from MYOB

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview: Users may encounter the error "Account Name must not be empty" when importing a trial balance into a new binder connected to a MYOB accounting file.

For existing binders, users may see a "Something went wrong. Please contact support if the issue persists." error when reimporting a trial balance in an active Workpapers binder connected to a MYOB source.

Cause

This issue occurs when one or more accounts in the MYOB Chart of Accounts (including inactive accounts) have missing or blank Account names.

Steps to resolve

1. Open MYOB AccountRight or MYOB Business

- Navigate to Accounts > Chart of Accounts (or Accounts > Categories in MYOB Business)

2. Review the Chart of Accounts

- Look for accounts with blank Account Names.

- Check both active and inactive accounts.

3. Update Blank Accounts

- Specify a name for any accounts with missing or blank Account names (including inactive ones).

- Save changes in MYOB.

4. Re-attempt the Import

- Return to Active Workpapers and retry the import. The error should be resolved, and accounts should now display correctly.
