How to troubleshoot Error: 'The supplied file does not contain a Workpaper id' when rolling over a Smart Workpapers file to Active

Overview: Users may occasionally encounter the following error when rolling over a Smart Workpapers file to an Active Workpapers binder using Option 2 of the binder creation window:

Error: “The supplied file does not contain a Workpaper ID.”


Cause

This occurs when a hidden Workpaper ID does not prefill correctly in the Smart Workpapers file.


Resolution

There are several actions that will trigger the Workpaper ID to prefill. Please ensure you open your smart workpaper file and perform one of the actions below:

  • Assigning a Workbook Status (from the Workpapers ribbon – first option).

  • Connecting the Smart Workpapers file to a Source (e.g. Xero, MYOB, QBO, etc.) if applicable.

  • Adding a Workpaper Item (such as notes or client queries).

  • Assigning a user (e.g. Partner/Manager) from the Home page.
